The night before your wedding: a calm checklist

What to pack, confirm and hand over the night before — and how to actually get some sleep.

The night before is for finishing touches and rest, not new projects. Our “20 things to pack the night before” pin is one of our most saved — here’s the fuller version.

Hand over

Give the décor boxes, guest book, favors and signs to the person setting up. Put the tip envelopes with the person handing them out.

Prepare for the morning

  • Lay out comfortable clothes to get ready in (button-up, so nothing goes over your hair)
  • Put the rings, license and vows by the door or with their carrier
  • Pack a small bag for after the wedding: toiletries, a change of clothes, medication
  • Set out breakfast and water, and plan who brings coffee

If you can’t sleep

Put your phone away, keep the room cool and dark, and don’t worry about a restless night — adrenaline carries almost everyone through the day. Rest, even without sleep, still helps.

Rest

Eat dinner, drink water, skip the late night, and do something calming: a bath, a walk, a letter to your partner. Many couples exchange letters or small gifts on the wedding morning.

General information, not legal, medical or financial advice. Confirm details with your vendors, venue, officiant and local authorities.

Questions people ask

What should you do the night before your wedding?

Pack and label everything, confirm transport and timings, hand items to helpers, eat well and go to bed early.

Should the couple spend the night before the wedding apart?

It’s a tradition, not a rule. Some couples stay apart for the anticipation; others prefer to be together.
